Jason Vaz

Jason got hooked on video at age 16 after his amateur video of a funnel cloud led the 4 p.m. newscast on Channel 4 (KCNC) in Denver. He studied video production at University of Southern Colorado and Metro State, eventually landing a job at Channel 9 (KUSA) as the youngest-ever staff editor. After stints at KOCO in Oklahoma City and Denver’s Channel 2 (KWGN), he returned to Channel 9 where he won a Heartland Regional Emmy and Colorado Association of Black Journalists’ Photographer of the Year. As a freelancer since 2002, he’s traveled on assignment to Moscow, Israel, Uganda, Mexico and Jordan. When he’s not out shooting, he helps promote his wife Melissa’s salon business. Jason and his wife have three children and a “schnoodle” named Romeo.
